Art School Lesson #1-- Acrylic Painting Terms

As a beginning artist, there is much you may not know about the painting process.  Almost anything there is to know about painting has a term assigned to it.  For example, the surface you paint on is called a support.  The way you mix two or more colors is called blending.  Pigment that doesn't allow light through it is called opaqueness.

These terms may not seem to be important when learning how to paint, but they truly are.  If you have a general understanding of the terms used in reference to acrylic painting, it will help you to become more knowledgeable about your own painting process.

Let's participate in an Art School Lesson on Acrylic Painting Terms.  Review the list of terms at the link below.  Then answer the five questions that follow.

Commonly Used Acrylic Terms

Questions:

1.       Define the term Grisaille.
2.       Name two types of canvases.
3.       Define Scumble.
4.       Define Wash.
5.       What can be added to acrylic paint to extend the drying time?

If you were able to answer all of the questions above correctly, you have done well on your first Art School Lesson.  Feel free to post your answers in the comment section of this post.
