30 in 30 Art Challenge--Painting No. 30

Today is the last day of Leslie Saeta's 30 Paintings in 30 Days art challenge.  It has been fun and challenging, and I am glad I was able to complete all 30 paintings this month.  I am thankful for all of you who have followed me along on this challenge.

I chose a seascape theme for my month-long art challenge.  Here is my last painting for the challenge.  While at the marina at Nags Head, I took pictures of a life preserver hanging on a wooden pole.  It seemed inconspicuous at first, but then I could see the power in this little orange thing--the power to save a life if necessary.

As we headed in from fishing on the Oregon Inlet, we saw several other fishing boats, in every color imaginable, heading in also with their catch of fish for the day.  Some seemed to be racing across the ocean at dizzying speeds to see who would get back to the marina first.

At Nags Head, you can find some of the best-tasting seafood, fresh out of the ocean during the summer months.  I love seafood, particularly crab legs, shrimp, and lobster.  Oysters come in a distant fourth.  I haven't tried them raw yet.  But a fried oyster Po Boy cannot be beat!

These colorful buoys were hanging from the side of a fishing boat on the Oregon Inlet.  Buoys are used as flotation devices to be thrown to a person in the water to provide buoyancy.

While fishing on the Oregon Inlet at Nags Head, NC, we saw pelicans diving into the water for fish.  Some landed on the water and dunked their long beaks into the water, gobbling up as many fish as their pouches would hold.  I captured some pictures the feeding frenzy, and here is a painting of a hungry pelican.

This buoy was floating in the Oregon Inlet when we headed out to sea to fish.  I took a picture of its majesty as it stood guard, guiding us away from the shallow waters of the shore to ensure we would make a safe trip to open water and back.
